« In 2009, I created Asphalte, which I described as a choreographic hip-hop road movie. The dancers moved endlessly around a cube of light that served as a backdrop but also as movie screen. Thus, at each of their appearance, the dancers would become the actors of an adventure in perpetual evolution. In 2022, I want to write episode 2 of this updated urban saga. The process remains the same, the dancers who have become characters continue to revolve around this city of light. And like in a video game, they are entitled to new lives, and new situations open to them. The city is always a meeting place, for better or for worse. The city is always a jungle or a refuge. It is always a place of laughter or fear. It continues to shape the groups and the lives of those who call it home ... the story is not over. An "episode 2" evoques the possibility of an evolution, of a future. In this period of health crisis, the world is put on hold and time expands. Thinking takes off but is consumed in a magma of uncertainty. The "world of after" will develop ? or will the "world of before reclaim its place ?" Certainly, the piece Asphalte 2.0 revisits the original piece Asphalte but it also puts the bodies and the movements that have been through these unexpected and unreal times into perspective. Dancers will be again vectors of a mysterious digitization that rids humans of their organicity. Will the energy, passion and humor of the dancers resist ? » Pierre Rigal
