Mobile is the third solo by Pierre Rigal. Erection tells the story of a man lying down and trying to get up. Press tells the story of a man evolving in a shrinking space. And Mobile tells the story of a man who tries to fill the immensity of his vital space.
A man is lost in the desert.
With a more or less peaceful solitude as sole companion, he can only grasp the emptiness to move and shift. But then noises of the memories of a social life, sounds of his desires, or maybe of his future, break the deafening silence surrounding him. These sounds, more and more distinguishable, sometimes harmonious, sometimes humorous, are the premises of a strange phenomenon. The image of a real size american car comes down from the sky and lands on the ground. Then a second, and a third car inflate the trafic of a city also built in two dimensions. Without a break, plastic images of an entire society made of merchandise and objects forever continue to land. And in this labyrinthe of profusion, in this cinematographic film made of pasteboard, the intoxicated man tries to float or make his way in these stories who are falling from the sky. The intense and exiting need to fill the emptiness mingles with the absurd and frightening nightmares of this all-around abundance.
But later, this suspended reality will take ease and hoist itself towards the sky to pursue its active invasion. After the ground, the entire space must be filled. The man will try to fly away and teleport himself in this ocean of flying images or try to grasp on to the icons, and even doing so in the end, he will have to give in. Transformed into a puppet, he will have to accept to dance on his own under the ceiling supporting the enormous Calder mobile, this mobile of immobile images, which no longer belong to him. Happy and sad at the same time he will let the illusion of his God fly away.
